I have a morning routine that helps me to stay healthy and feel better overall when I stick to it. When travelling it is a little bit harder to stay on track but being prepared definitely helps. Here are some tips to stay healthy while travelling that work for me. I just arrived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and wanted to set myself up for success while I’m here. I went to the market which is a great experience in itself. I was able to find the basics that I needed plus some delicious and healthy things that I you wouldn’t normally find in markets in the U.S.
I found a bottle of Unfiltered Apple Cider Vinegar (ACV). I drink this every morning and see benefits like improved digestion and boosted immunity. I also use it on my hair to fight build up from products and on my skin as a toner. In addition to my ACV every morning I also drink a glass of lemon water. Lemon water in the morning has been known for many health benefits including flushing out toxins, boosting immunity and aiding in digestion.
In addition to my morning routine staples I was able to find fresh fruits and juices for when I needed a snack or as a light lunch to avoid eating out for every meal. When I walked into the produce area of the market I found a woman pressing fresh pomegranates and had to get a bottle of the juice. It is so much better freshly pressed and we finished it quickly and I had to go back for more. Next to the pomegranates was a man cracking and peeling fresh coconuts and they were about $1 each for the fresh meat and juice… so much better than bottled coconut water back home which is one of my favorite things. I got a few different fresh fruits including a couple that were new to me. Fresh jackfruit is definitely something I will be looking for in the U. S. its delicious!
Next to the supermarket was a juice bar and I was able to get delicious cold pressed juice blends for approximately $3 each. I also found a place that had fresh cut fruit like papaya, melons, pineapples for under $1 a serving.
I also stocked up on items to make healthy drinks like aloe juice, bottled water, a box of tea bags and a jar of honey. In the hotel I order hot water and am able to make hot tea with fresh lemon and honey which is especially helpful since I’ve been fighting a bit of a cold. Between this, the daily apple cider vinegar, daily workouts in the hotel gym and getting as much rest as possible I have been able to keep myself healthy and haven’t missed out on anything due to my cold.
